How to find a TON address and see its balance without a wallet

Paste the address, or a .ton name, into the search bar on the Tongram home page and press Enter. You do not need a wallet, an account or a connection: the explorer reads public chain data only.

The account view shows the balance in GRAM with an approximate fiat value, the account status, the contract type when it is a known wallet version, the number of jettons and recent transactions, plus the raw address and code hash.

Balance, status and history come from Toncenter, collectibles from tonapi, and .ton names are resolved through tonapi before lookup. The fiat figure is a market price from CoinGecko, cached for a few minutes.

Look up an address

What this covers

  • This guide covers looking up an account on TON mainnet in the Tongram explorer, from the home page, with no wallet installed.
  • It covers addresses in user-friendly form (starting with EQ or UQ) and in raw form (workchain:hex), and .ton domain names.

Steps in Tongram

  1. Open the Tongram home page and click into the search field. Until you have searched once, two sample addresses are offered there to try.
  2. Paste the address or type a .ton name and press Enter. A .ton name is resolved to an address first, then treated exactly like an address.
  3. Read the header: the contract label (a wallet version, Contract, or Not deployed), the shortened address with a copy button, and the balance in GRAM with a fiat estimate.
  4. Read the four facts: Status, Contract, Jettons and Transactions. Below them are the raw address and the code hash.
  5. Scroll to see jettons held, collectibles, and the history tabs for GRAM transfers, jettons, collectibles, swaps and staking.
  6. Tap a history row to open that transaction.

What you see and where it comes from

  • Balance, status and code hash come from the Toncenter v3 /accountStates endpoint. Tongram sends only the address you looked up.
  • Status is shown as the indexer reports it: active, uninit, frozen or nonexist. An address with no transactions yet reads as nonexist with a zero balance.
  • The contract label is derived by matching the code hash against a fixed table of standard wallet versions (v1 to v5). Anything else is shown as unknown / custom.
  • Jettons and the GRAM history come from Toncenter. Collectibles come from tonapi. Domain resolution uses the tonapi DNS endpoint.
  • The fiat estimate multiplies the on-chain balance by a CoinGecko price cached for up to five minutes. It is a market figure, not a chain fact.

Freshness and limits

  • Indexers update at different moments, so a balance can differ briefly from another explorer or from a wallet app.
  • The history list shows recent transactions, not the full record. The Transactions fact counts the rows loaded, not the lifetime total.
  • Tongram cannot tell who controls an address. A wallet label says which contract code is deployed, nothing about the owner.
  • If a .ton name has no wallet record, the search reports that and stops. If a provider is unavailable, the affected block is left empty rather than filled with stale data.

Common mistakes

  • Confusing the bounceable (EQ) and non-bounceable (UQ) forms of the same address. Both point to the same account; Tongram shows the raw form so you can compare.
  • Reading nonexist as "wrong address". A valid address that has never received anything has no state yet.
  • Taking the fiat figure as an exact value. It is a cached market price applied to the balance.
  • Assuming the collectibles list is complete. It is what tonapi returns for that address at that moment.
